Chia seeds - Recipes of the Aztecs
 
It is known that daily nutrition of Aztecs consisted of four staple foods: amaranth, beans, corn and chia seeds. Chia seeds were eaten all over the South and Middle America, among Maya and Inca people as well, be it on their own, mixed with amaranth, grounded into flour or made into delicious drink. They were also cold pressed into oil, used for body paints. People of »the new world« probably didn’t pay much attention to nutritional composition of these tiny seeds, but they surely knew one thing – the seeds worked for them.
 
Chia Chocolate Pudding: 
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 5 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1-2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup
Mix all the ingredients and let it soak for at least 10-15 minutes. Enjoy as it is, or add some fresh fruit!
Fruit Salad with Chia: 
  • peeled orange
  • peeled banana
  • peeled kiwi
  • apple
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
Soak chia seeds in orange juice for 10 minutes. At the same time chop the fruit into smaller pieces and mix it in a bowl. Add soaked chia and orange juice and sweeten with agave syrup if needed. Use the fruit of your choice according to season!
Rejuvenation Drink: 
  • 2 cups hemp milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder
  • 1 ripe banana
Blend all the ingredient in a high-speed blender and enjoy in a big glass! For a green variety, add some spirulina powder or some fresh spinach.
